Athletic Cooperative Information
Emerson-Hubbard Community Schools, Wakefield Community Schools, and Allen Consolidated Schools began exploring athletic cooperation this fall after low participation numbers in junior high football raised concerns about providing students with opportunities to participate. Building on that initial effort, school board cooperative committees and school administrators have continued discussions about current participation needs and ways to support school athletic programs now and in the future.
As a result of these discussions, junior high winter and spring sports will operate as cooperative programs this school year. Junior high volleyball and cross country will join the cooperative next fall. High school girls wrestling will also operate as a cooperative program this winter.
Quad County Winter Sports
Junior high winter sports will be offered through the Quad County cooperative. Practice schedules and locations will vary by sport:
● Junior High Boys and Girls Wrestling: Practices will alternate between Allen and Emerson, with separate practices held at each location.
● Junior High Boys and Girls Basketball: Practices will take place in Wakefield, utilizing both of their gymnasiums.
● High School Girls Wrestling: The team will compete as the Quad County Yellow Jackets, with practices split between Emerson and Allen.
Families can review the winter schedules using school websites.
Looking Ahead
The three school districts will continue discussions about potential high school cooperative opportunities in the future. These conversations will include participation numbers, school classifications, the potential impact of cooperative arrangements, and other factors that affect students, schools, and athletic programs. The goal is to thoughtfully explore options that allow students to participate, provide meaningful athletic experiences, and help sustain school athletic programs for years to come.
