Wolfpack Battle Cougars in 42-30 Loss
The Tri County Northeast Wolfpack football team put together a strong rushing performance but came up short against the Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars, falling 42-30 on Friday, September 11.
The Wolfpack offense totaled 292 yards, with 258 coming on the ground. Senior Blake Kneifl led the rushing attack, carrying the ball 32 times for 177 yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yard run. Sophomore Ben Bousquet added 67 yards on 15 carries and scored another rushing touchdown.
Senior quarterback Landyn Servine completed 3-of-6 passes for 34 yards while also adding eight yards on the ground. Junior Knox Lamp hauled in two passes for 33 yards, including a 25-yard reception.
Special teams also provided a spark for TCNE. Sophomore Logan Kraemer returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown, while junior Logan Morgan recorded 51 yards on three kickoff returns. The Wolfpack successfully converted four two-point attempts, with Kneifl converting twice on the ground, Bousquet once on the ground and Lamp adding a receiving conversion.
Defensively, Bousquet led the Wolfpack with 11 total tackles, including four solo stops. Senior Atlee Anderson finished with eight tackles and a tackle for loss, while Morgan recorded seven tackles and junior H. Hatcher added six.
Despite the loss, the Wolfpack found success moving the football on the ground and produced four touchdowns against the Cougars. Niobrara/Verdigre ultimately came away with the 42-30 victory.
