The Wolfpack girl and boy teams opened the fall season at the Logan View school campus on Thursday.
It was humid and warm for the early morning meet. Nonetheless, the Wolfpack got a meet under their belts, and it looked promising.
No girls placed in the top 15 at the meet. Junior Alejandra Hermosillo led the five girl runners posting a 24:37.79 time good for 23rd in the 90-contestant field. Bre Millard posted a 24:51.65 time to finish 24th. Both placed in the 2023 field, but larger schools this year pushed the potential to medal backward.
Freshmen Hailey Millard in her first race posted a 29:17.72 which was good as comparable to her early fall workouts. Millard finished 63rd, Jenni Olson posted a 65th finish at 29:53.25. Freshmen Chloe Peters fell victim to the heat with about 600 meters left in the race and did not finish.
The boys’ team had a first-time occurrence. Sophomore Jude Ridenour became the first Wolfpack boy runner in the three years of the program to earn a medal in a meet. Ridenour placed 14th in a field of 125 with a time of 19:17.39. It was the first ever run for Ridenour who played football as a freshman.
Junior, Alex Snyder posted a 41st finish with a 21:13.77 clocking. Senior, Devin Lewellen posted a time of 21:54.25 good for 51st. Lewellen dropped a minute and a half off his 2023 effort on the same course.
Next action for the Wolfpack runners will be on Thursday, September 6th at the Wisner-Pilger meet held at the Beemer Golf course. Meet time is set for 5:00.
COACHES COMMENTS:
“It was a fairly successful start to the season. The team ran approximately the same as we did a year ago. The competition was very good today and larger fields, so they had to focus on us first and stay within our ability. I think that was accomplished. The team will need to continue to improve as in the past to achieve some successes as the season progresses. Good job teams!”
