Tri County Northeast track members had some very good moments at a very competitive meet at Hartington on Tuesday, April 1st.  The weather was no “April Fool” as it was 42 degrees, cloudy, drizzling, and winds from the southeast at 25 mph or more all day.

Leading the way for the girls’ squad was Kiya Tornez, as she won 3 gold medals on the day.  Tornez won the long jump with a leap of 16’ ½”, 100 meters in 13.25, and the 200 in 28.46.  Bre Millard added a gold medal in the 300 hurdles running a time of 49.19.  Millard also added a second-place finish in the 200 running 29.19. She also placed fifth in the 100 hurdles and sixth in the 100.

Junior Alejandra Hermosillo collected a third-place finish in the 3,200 running 14:46.59.

On the boys’ side, senior Bryan Isom captured gold in the 300 hurdles, clocking a time of 42.74.  He then followed up with two third place finishes.  One in the triple jump with a leap of 39’3 ½” and a 110-hurdle finish in 16.86.  Junior Thatcher Lamp collected a pair of medals in the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles.

COACHES COMMENTS: “The athletes performed above expectations in very nasty conditions.  The girls’ team, short two relay members, could have most likely been team runner-up.  The coaches continue to see improvement from the athletes that are not currently earning medals at meets and they will soon be breaking through themselves.  The team continues to be a work in progress, and the goal is to be our best at the end of the year.  Very good effort today athletes!”
