Results of the 2023 Nebraska Junior Academy of Sciences State Science Fair
On April 20, 2023, two students from Allen Consolidated Schools competed in the Nebraska Junior Academy of Sciences State Science Fair. Students competing were Aurora Collins, a 7th grade student, and Jude Ridenour an 8th grade student. The Title of Aurora’s project is “Can Limestone sediment be used to protect growing spinach from acid rain?” Aurora finished with a Blue Ribbon and was awarded the US Department of Agriculture’s certificate for an outstanding project in agriculture. The title of Jude’s project is, “How does Ammonium Nitrate affect Daphnia magna?” Jude Finished with a Purple ribbon and was selected as one of the Top 10 Junior Projects at the Nebraska State Science Fair. He was also awarded the Office of Naval Research Naval Science Award for the top junior project at the Nebraska State Science Fair and won a $100 award for the top Junior Division project at the Nebraska State Science Fair. There were 36 Junior Division projects competing in the Nebraska State Science fair from across the state. The competition was tough this year with Jude Ridenour finishing as one of the top Junior Division projects in the state. Aurora Collins did very well as a 7th grade student as she finished with one of the top blue ribbons. The projects were split into three divisions with the top 10 projects receiving Purple Ribbons, the next 10 projects finished with Blue Ribbons and the remaining projects finished with Red Ribbons. I am very pleased at how well the students from Allen Consolidated Schools performed at such a high level of competition.
