Wolfpack Sweep Triangular, Improve to 19-4 on the Season
The TCNE Wolfpack continued their strong run of play on Tuesday, October 14, as they swept a varsity volleyball triangular against the Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats and the Winside Wildcats. The Pack claimed both victories in hard-fought fashion, defeating Hartington-Newcastle 2-0 and battling past Winside 2-1 to improve their season record to an impressive 19-4.
In the second match of the evening, TCNE took down Hartington-Newcastle in straight sets, 25-20 and 25-23. Outside hitters Joslyn Mackling and Kiya Tornez led the offensive charge with 10 kills each, keeping the Wildcats’ defense on its heels. The Wolfpack served tough throughout, racking up six aces—three from Mackling and two from Tornez. DeLaney Fuchser anchored the net defense with two blocks, while libero Emily Mitchell showcased her consistency in the back row with 11 digs. Setter Ally Belt distributed the offense efficiently with 18 assists, and Mackling led the serve receive effort with 15 passes, followed closely by Mitchell and Tornez with 14 each.
In the final match of the triangular, TCNE faced a gritty Winside team that forced the Pack to dig deep after dropping the first set 17-25. The Wolfpack stormed back in dominant fashion to take the next two, 25-11 and 26-24, securing the 2-1 match victory. Tornez was unstoppable at the net, hammering down 19 kills to lead all hitters. Aubrey Mitchell added two aces from the service line, while Fuchser once again contributed with a key block.
Belt had an outstanding all-around performance in the Winside match, leading the team with 10 digs and dishing out an impressive 33 assists to keep the offense balanced. Mackling and Emily Mitchell were rock-solid in serve receive, tallying 22 and 20 passes respectively.
With these two wins, the Wolfpack not only swept the triangular but also showcased their depth, teamwork, and resilience as they continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
